PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH
It seems easy to give instructions. In this case, if you,re holding a certain post in a big organisation. As humans, we tend to forget what we said but for others who are listening, they'll remember every single word that you say. (if they are paying attention!)
I had the opportunity to experience this scenario. I was given the "HONOUR" to work along side this LADY BOSS. She had 3 subordinates & I had the same. Both of us had a certain tasks that required coordination with the 6 subordinates. So we had a little briefing b4 we started work.
1 of her subs was on his first day on the job. Let's call him Mr K & the LADY BOSS Ms J. How lucky. Never mind.. Think positive I tell myself.... These were her exact words during the briefing:
" Mr K is new to this job. Please assist & guide him along. We have to work together as a team." I didn't have much to say, just told them to enjoy themselves but make sure the job is done at the end of the day.
Encouraging words from your boss. It should be a smooth ride, I thought.
Well, I thought wrong. The moment we started our work, everything that Mr K did was wrong. He turned left, Wrong! He turned right, Wrong! He moved forward, Wrong! What's wrong with this guy? (You might have that impression) But after much observation, she was picking on him from the very first mistake he made... As the rate she was going, Mr K is like her maid. Ms J is just using LIP SERVICE... Poor Guy!
This went on till we finish the task that was given to us. I was just afraid that Mr K might break down, at the rate Ms J was going on with her nagging..... He proved me wrong.. He took it in his stride... He can even afford to smile... Nice Chap!
What happen to giving assistance to the poor chap? What happen to guiding him? Where did all that sweet talk go to? If this is the scenario, why have that briefing in the first place? Just don't bother about it. Waste my time only!
I guess it's easier said than done. Obviously, this Ms J totally forgot what she had said during her briefing. All that she said was done for the sake of doing it. No weight behind those words. She's like a parrot.
As for me, another lesson learnt. If you want respect, do the things that you preach. Because if you don't, you are making a mockery of yourself. NO ACTION TALK ONLY!
See you guys!!
